1. The short version
We collect only what Screen Fasting needs to keep your code safe and give it back: your email address, your Assistive Access code, and the details of your fasts. We also use analytics to see how people use our website. We never sell your data, and we don’t show ads.
2. What we collect
- Your email address — when you start a Welcome Fast or sign in. It’s how your code gets back to you.
- Your Assistive Access code — the 4-digit code set during your fast, saved before your phone changes.
- Your fasts — how long each one lasts, when it started and ends, and any name you give it.
- Your plan — whether you’re on Free or Pro. If you pay for Pro, our payment provider handles your card details; we never see or store your full card number.
- Your Screen Time screenshots — only if you’re on Pro and email them to your Screen Time coach. A real person on our team reads them. We use them to reply with suggestions and to track your progress in cutting back your screen time over the weeks.
- How you use our website — pages you visit, buttons you tap, which setup step you’re on, your device and browser type, and where you came from. Our analytics tools also record sessions on our website (what the page showed and where you clicked) so we can find what’s confusing or broken. Once you enter your email, this usage data is linked to it.
We can’t see anything on your phone itself — not your apps, messages, photos, or Screen Time — unless you choose to send us Screen Time screenshots. Session recordings only cover our own web pages.
3. About your Assistive Access code
The code we keep is only for Assistive Access. It is completely different from your phone’s passcode, Face ID, and every other passcode on your phone. It does one thing: let you leave Assistive Access.
On its own, the code is useless. To use it, someone would need your phone physically in their hands — and to leave Assistive Access, your phone first asks for its own regular unlock before it even asks for this code. So even someone who somehow knew your code couldn’t get into your phone with it.
Your code is kept on our server, where only you and our small team can reach it. It comes back to you when your fast ends. We only ever look at a code when you ask for help, like resending one that didn’t arrive.
4. How we use your information
- to email your code when your fast ends, and to sign you in;
- to run your fasts, your plan, and your fasting log;
- to reply to the Screen Time screenshots you send your coach, and to track your progress from week to week;
- to send emails about your account, like receipts and important changes;
- to send occasional product news — every one has an unsubscribe link;
- to understand how people use Screen Fasting and make it better;
- to prevent abuse and keep the service secure.
5. Who we share it with
We never sell your information or share it for advertising. We share it only with the services that help us run Screen Fasting — our database host, our email provider, our website host, our analytics tools, and our payment provider — and only so they can do that job for us.
We’ll also share information if the law requires it, or if it’s needed to protect someone’s safety.
6. Where it’s stored and for how long
Your data is stored in the United States, and by using Screen Fasting you understand it will be processed there.
We keep your email address, codes, fast history, and any Screen Time screenshots you send until you ask us to delete them. If you ask while a fast is running, we’ll wait until it ends and its code reaches you, then delete everything.
7. Cookies and analytics
Our website and app use cookies and your browser’s local storage to keep you signed in, remember where you are in setup, and remember your cookie choice. These are needed for Screen Fasting to work, so they’re always on.
We also use analytics cookies, from PostHog and Microsoft Clarity, to count visits and see where people get stuck. If you’re in the European Economic Area, the UK or Switzerland, we ask first, and these stay off until you say yes. We work out roughly where you are from your device’s time zone, so if yours is set to a European time zone you’ll be asked too. Wherever you are, you can change your answer at any time with the “Cookie settings” link at the bottom of our home page. You can also block or clear cookies in your browser, or use a tracker blocker. Screen Fasting works the same either way, and your code still reaches you.
8. Your choices and rights
Wherever you live, you can ask us to show you the data we hold about you, correct it, send you a copy, or delete it. Email hello@tryscreenfasting.com from the address you used, and we’ll reply within 30 days. You can unsubscribe from product news at any time using the link in any of those emails.
9. Children
Screen Fasting is for people aged 13 and older, and anyone under 18 needs a parent’s or guardian’s permission. If you believe a child under 13 has given us their information, email us and we’ll delete it.
10. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we’ll update the date at the top of this page, and if a change is significant we’ll email account holders before it takes effect.
